Birmingham Airport, Masterplan & Campus Development
The masterplan allows Birmingham to increase capacity by 40%, maintaining its position as one of Europe’s leading regional airports
Pascall+Watson’s relationship with Birmingham began over 20 years ago with the expansion of the airport to increase capacity from 6 to 10 million passengers a year.
Developed over three phases, the scheme encompassed both refurbishment and new build elements, all designed and constructed within a live operational environment. A new international pier significantly increased aircraft handling capabilities and introduced vertical segregation between departing and arriving passengers.
More recently we have collaborated with the airport in developing a new £500m masterplan. The comprehensive study focuses around the single runway, setting out a strategic phased plan to serve 18 million passengers a year by 2033.
It proposes a major expansion and modernisation of the existing terminal facilities, additional aircraft stands and improved transport access, including links connecting the airport to the future HS2 Interchange Station.
