Kingston University, Knights Park Learning Resources Centre
The award-winning Learning Resources Centre offers an inclusive and stimulating place to study
The modernisation and extension of Kingston University’s Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture represents the first significant phase of Pascall+Watson’s masterplan for the Knights Park Campus. The dated 1930’s building has been completely transformed offering a vibrant and stimulating learning environment.
The addition of an elegant glazed roof over the external quadrangle encloses the space providing a new home for the university’s Learning Resources Centre. Open plan study spaces, support amenities and reprographic facilities create a communal gathering place for students. Remodeling of the adjacent studio and office areas establish visual connections with the atrium, reinforcing its position as the focal point of the scheme.
Mixed mode ventilation, rooftop photovoltaic panels, solar thermal collectors and a rainwater harvesting system have been carefully integrated into the scheme to deliver demonstrable sustainability benefits.
The project has received excellent feedback from both students and staff alike, praising the quality of the architecture and its operational effectiveness.
