London Stansted Airport, Satellite 1 Fit Out
The fit out architecture creates a bright and efficient dwell space for the international traveller
As part of Stansted Airports’ ongoing Transformation Programme, Pascall+Watson were engaged to develop new interior design concepts for Satellite 1, modernise its existing tired infrastructure and subsequently to deliver the scheme.
Fundamental considerations in the development of the new layout were around creating an intuitive wayfinding experience and providing a more user-friendly retail offer.
The new arrangement removes the bottlenecks and congestion points experienced previously enabling clear, uncluttered circulation flows. Gate provision has been totally reconfigured, creating a series of efficient seating areas for passengers to dwell prior to boarding the aircraft.
Material selection was been based on providing a calm, relaxed environment requiring a low maintenance regime, whilst respecting particularly challenging budgetary constraints.
Undertaken within a live airport environment, the project was successfully phased to minimise disruption.
