Manchester Airport, Transformation Programme
At a cost of £1bn, the Transformation Programme represents the most significant investment ever made at Manchester Airport
A comprehensive £1bn redevelopment of Manchester Airport, the UK’s third largest airport, is transforming the location in to a key global gateway to meet the evolving needs of both passengers and airlines alike.
Following a comprehensive masterplanning exercise carried out by Pascall+Watson, we were subsequently appointed to implement all of the recommendations presented in our study. The conclusion of the study provided an effective balance between realising passenger benefits, processing efficiencies, commercial realism and the need to accommodate growing forecasts within the constraints of an existing campus.
The complex transformation programme comprises a series of 60 enhancements. Key elements amongst these enhancements include the extension and reconfiguration of the existing Terminal 2, (doubling its size), new piers, aircraft stands, new forecourt areas and multi-storey car parks.
As the showpiece of the development, the new Terminal 2 will boast a series of generous double-height spaces and floor-to-ceiling glazed facades ensuring a bright, airy interior awash with natural light. Careful selection of materials and attention to detail will create a modern, calm environment for the traveller.
