London Stansted Airport, Transformation Programme
The Transformation Programme is the largest single investment since the airport’s inception
The Pascall+Watson-led £600m Transformation Programme at Stansted Airport represents the airport’s biggest single investment since its inception.
A new 39,000m² stand-alone arrivals terminal forms the centre-piece of the scheme, uniquely relocating all arrivals functions into a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility; the first of its kind in the UK. The carefully considered design respects the iconic architecture of the existing terminal, taking cues from its simple structural form and clean, uncluttered geometry. The BREEAM rated building combines a high quality passenger environment with an enhanced immigration and baggage reclaim area, spacious arrivals concourse and a welcoming public forecourt.
Via a complex sequence of reconfiguration and modernisation, the existing building becomes a facility totally dedicated to the departures process. The reconfiguration includes expansion of the existing check-in, security and retail areas. A new airside coaching facility, aircraft stands, taxiway infrastructure and car parking facilities complete the scope of the project.
The project adds to Pascall+Watson’s ongoing contribution to the airport’s evolution over the last 25 years.
