Yas Arena, the UAE’s first state-of-the-art multi-purpose entertainment arena in Abu Dhabi, has been announced as the ‘Sustainable Building Design of the Year’ at the Middle East North Africa (MENA) Green Building Awards.
Currently on site, the arena is designed to adapt from an intimate 500 seat theatre to an 18,000 capacity venue. The innovative and highly flexible facility will support a variety of events including sports, concerts, performances, conventions and community gatherings.
The design has achieved a 2 Pearl rating from the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council and combines passive design strategies such as the incorporation of shading features, the provision of adequate daylight and the reduction of the building envelopes u-values to reduce energy consumption.
Pascall+Watson in collaboration with WSP and HOK are delivering this visionary project, which is part of the Yas Bay Resort. Developed by Miral Asset Management, the scheme is planned as a vibrant and compelling destination for both residents and tourists.
This years MENA Green Building Award winners were announced on the 9 May, at the annual gala dinner in Dubai.
