Pascall+Watson have been selected as one of five winners for the first phase of Network Rail’s ‘Re-Imagining Railway Stations - Connecting Communities’ RIBA international design competition.
The design contest, which attracted more than 200 entries from competitors based in 34 countries, provided designers the chance to re-shape the travel experience for the millions of passengers who use Britain’s railway, and leave a lasting legacy on station design.
Network Rail invited proposals that challenged and re-imagined what a ‘station’ could become in the 21st century to address the changing character of our society, by creating an interface between the community and the railway for both new build and existing stations.
Pascall+Watson’s vision inspires us to look at railway stations as the heart of the community. Responsive to each locality’s culture, the sustainable design concept integrates and adapts to the wide ranging suburban and rural contexts of the 2,000+ small to medium Network Rail stations, across the UK.
