We are delighted to share with you a recent collaborative venture that embodies Pascall+Watson’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of architects, designers, and digital professionals.
We have partnered with Wandsworth Council and Heathrow Airport’s apprenticeship scheme to deliver a student mentoring programme exploring how sustainable architecture and design can benefit and sustain modern society. Earlier this year, we mentored two secondary school students who are considering a career path into architecture. The programme provided them with a unique glimpse into the intricacies of our industry, allowing them to understand our day-to-day operations and the goals driving our architectural projects forward.
The week-long immersive experience introduced students to our practice and helped them gain a holistic understanding of the architectural landscape. This exposure laid the foundation for the subsequent four-day workshop, where the students were encouraged to channel their creativity and to design and present one of three given briefs.
Jennifer Wong, our Associate Architect, has been instrumental in driving this initiative forward. Her mentorship has empowered the students with innovative ideas, effective verbal presentation techniques, and invaluable career guidance. Jennifer's passion for nurturing these architects has been truly inspiring.
Reflecting on her involvement, Jennifer stated: “It is such a pleasure to be able to assist these young curious minds with their first career choices. In instances where architecture isn't part of their academic curriculum, students often enter with limited understanding of our dynamic industry. Witnessing their transformative journey, as they evolve, gain confidence, and discover newfound joy in a matter of days, is profoundly inspiring."
One student expressed her gratitude, "Thank you very much for all your support during this week. It’s been an amazing experience and it has helped me to understand how life and work is as an Architect… When I finish my University, can I come back and work with you guys?"
