The Pascall+Watson designed Kingston University Knights Park Learning Resources Centre was highly commended at The Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) Library Design Awards 2013.
The building was selected for the way in which it sensitively and imaginatively incorporated the original 1930’s building, retaining many of the original features and using them to enhance the space, both aesthetically and functionally.
This sustainable solution to a space problem places the Learning Resources Centre firmly at the centre of the campus and embedded into teaching practice.
The centrepiece of the project sees the previously external quadrangle courtyard covered with a glazed roof creating a bright and airy atrium for the Learning Resources Centre.
This ensured the needs of students and staff on this campus were amply met, as well as fulfilling the aim of blurring the boundaries between study and work in the creative industries and professions.
