Tiruchirappalli International Airport, New TerminalAirport Authority of India (AAI)

Pascall+Watson have created the concept design and vision for a new integrated passenger terminal at Tiruchirappalli International Airport in Trichy, India.

The concept combines references from local heritage and culture with a contemporary architectural language, creating a sense of place and identity for passengers.

The expressive form of the roof and multi-layered façade take inspiration from the geometry, textures and colours of Trichy’s unique traditional temple architecture and the landscape which it sits within.

The GRIHA Four Star rated sustainable design maximises the use of natural light within the building and incorporates renewable energy measures, such as rainwater harvesting, ground source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels.

The 60,000m² terminal will accommodate both international and domestic flights for over 3.5 million passengers each year.
