Stansted Airport International Departures Lounge, Manchester Airports Group (M.A.G)

Pascall+Watson provided architectural design services for the redevelopment of Stansted Airport’s main terminal building International Departures Lounge (IDL). This project forms part of the airport’s larger £260m investment programme instigated from its acquisition by MAG in 2013.

The project was delivered in three main phases with phase one comprising of a new walk through World Duty Free store, located at the entrance to the IDL. Phase two focused on the airport’s Food & Beverage (F&B) offering, comprising of new cafes, restaurants and bars, to enhance the passenger’s choice of outlets and phase three consisted of work to terminal’s retail offering. The scheme also provides a 70% increase in the amount of seating as well as flight information boards, positioned in all of the retail and F&B establishments, charging points and free Wi-Fi for passengers to use.

The layout of the new IDL has been carefully designed to allow passengers to intuitively flow through the lounge, enabling them to either browse the retail and F&B offerings or to easily navigate through to the departures gate areas, if preferred.
