Manchester Airport Terminal 2, Security ControlManchester Airport Developments

The requirement to significantly increase passenger throughput and relocate existing facilities necessitated some dramatic remodelling of the existing T2 at Manchester Airport. All four levels of the building were affected by the reconfiguration, both front-of-house and back-of-house facilities.

One of the most complex challenges was the three dimensional adjustment of the 'restricted zone' boundary, the line that separates landside and airside operations. This had to be carefully considered and re-aligned across all floor levels, both vertically and horizontally, existing infrastructure upgraded accordingly.

The most striking visual aspect of the project is undoubtedly the new check-in concourse addition with its flying bridges, shrouds, and lifts clad predominantly in neutral tones to integrate with the existing, highlighted with a range of the airport's own branding colours. This both animates the existing space and assists in intuitive wayfinding for departing passengers.
