Florence Airport, Terminal RedevelopmentAeroporto de Firenze
Following the successful competition winning design for the external envelope of the new redevelopment at Florence Airport, Pascall+Watson were subsequently appointed to provide interior design consultancy services to the airport operators Aeroporto de Firenze for the first phase of the expansion programme.
The scope also includes detailed design services for the design of the check-in desks, ticketing counters and wayfinding. The concept design was developed in close co-operation with the client whose vision was for an interior that was recognisably international but also responded to the cultural, geographical and historical influences of the Tuscany region.
The check-in hall was conceived as a formal space reminiscent of a banking hall with high ceilings and timber wall panelling providing a calm and sophisticated neutral backdrop to the sober process of check-in. The subtle curvilinear form of the front of the check-in desk was distinctly Italian and made from hi-tech composite materials.
The main circulation and waiting spaces were differentiated by the two tones of the hard surface floor finishes. The ceiling finishes enhance the natural light pervading the space through the clerestory windows.
