Beijing Daxing International Airport, Terminal Development

Pascall+Watson, as part of a consortium, took part in a design competition to develop and optimise a concept design for the 700,000m² Beijing Daxing International Airport, located on a greenfield site.

The airport proposal features an iconic, highly functional terminal complex at its centre, capable of handling 45mppa; developed with a phased masterplan which enables sustainable and functional integration of the terminal with its urban context. Flexible expansion options were also provided with adaptable configurations, allowing for the growth of the terminal facility to provide additional capacity for up to 75mppa.

The underlying design ethos was to keep the airfield and the terminal building compact, with all aircraft stands kept as close to the heart of the passenger terminal as possible to provide shorter walking distances. The consolidation of all passenger processing functions in the very core of the terminal provided further benefits to its operational effectiveness.
