Northfield Student Housing

Pascall+Watson architects won the competition to provide accommodation for 1400 students on two separate sites, Northfield and East Slope for the University of Sussex. Northfield is a cluster of 777 student housing units located in the green belt on the South Downs. The scheme consists of fourteen houses arranged to form a small community. Each building has clusters of six student flats and re-interprets the local vernacular in a contemporary manner through the use of materials and forms. The scheme utilises prefabricated bedroom pods, timer frame technology and achieves a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating.
