JKIA Greenfield Terminal Breaks GroundDecember 2013
Work on the new airport terminal at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is underway after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s launch of the Sh56 billion (£395 million) project on 3rd December 2013.
“We want to make JKIA the most convenient, comfortable and secure airport in the region; to make Kenya the most attractive air hub in Africa,” said President Kenyatta when he broke ground for the new terminal.
The terminal design has been carried out by Pascall+Watson. KAA decided on an elongated X concept. The Greenfield terminal is expected to handle 20 million passengers in a year.
Matthew Butters, Director of Pascall+Watson presented the design to President Kenyatta at the launch reception in Nairobi this week. Speaking from Kenya, Matthew said of the commission “Pascall+Watson are delighted to be designing what will become Africa's largest airport terminal – a further demonstration of our ever expanding international presence”.
