Blackfriars Station Wins RIBA Regional AwardMay 2014
Pascall+Watson are delighted to announce that the Blackfriars Station Redevelopment was last night awarded a prestigious RIBA London Regional Award, and was a finalist for the RIBA London Sustainability Award.
The station has been rebuilt on a widened Victorian rail bridge, creating the only station in London to span the River Thames giving passengers unrivalled views over London whilst providing access to both north and south banks. The new South Bank entrance building is designed as a glazed elliptical structure in plan, whilst the new North Bank entrance has been designed as an open transparent curved glass building, providing significant natural light within.
The design works were carried out on behalf of Pascall+Watson's client Network Rail. Detailed Design delivery was carried out by Jacobs, with Pascall+Watson acting as Concept Guardians.
The project will now be put forward for the RIBA National Awards, which will be announced in June. Those collecting National Awards will then be considered for the 2014 RIBA Stirling Prize.
