Blackfriars Station Redevelopment Selected As Civic Trust Award 2014 Regional FinalistDecember 2013
The Pascall+Watson designed Blackfriars Station Redevelopment has been selected as a Civic Trust Award 2014 Regional Finalist.
The Thameslink Programme works required the full redevelopment of all areas of the existing station, in order to provide for a significant increase in passenger capacities and train headways to Thameslink services through central London.
The new station is the first ever to span the River Thames with a new roof over the entire platform length and a new South Bank entrance providing better access to the Tate Modern and surrounding area.
Commenting on the project, Michael Haste, Rail Director at Pascall+Watson said, “The redeveloped Blackfriars Thameslink station has taken a long time in design and construction, but it has now finally arrived. It is a project that we as architects are very proud to have designed. London now has a fantastic new station that will delight the passengers that go through it every day, whilst also allowing for the continued growth of the area around the station, which is already showing the shoots of new development.”
The Civic Trust Awards recognise the very best in the built environment and public realm. We will find out if the project has been selected for a National Award in January.
