Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology Finalist for the LABC Building Excellence AwardsApril 2016
The Pascall+Watson designed Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST) Advanced Metals Casting Centre (AMCC) research facility, for Brunel University London, has been short-listed as a finalist for the London Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards 2016, Best Large Commercial Building category.
The AMCC facility, which formally opened on Thursday, bridges the gap between fundamental research and industrial applications. Through scientific, technological, environmental and economic challenges it supports the UK manufacturing sector by conducting high-level academic research and industrial development in resource efficient processing of high performance aluminum, for automotive applications.
The Pascall+Watson team are now delivering the next phase, a new 1,400m² Advanced Metals Processing Centre (AMPC) facility, that will provide an additional provision for automotive and new material research.
The AMCC and AMPC projects are supported with research funding totalling £118m, which our work has assisted the university to gain from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Innovate UK and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, together with their industrial partners and Brunel University London.
The LABC Excellence Awards celebrate projects that demonstrate outstanding craftsmanship, technical innovation, sustainability and high performance. Winning schemes will be announced at the awards dinner at The Guildhall, London, on Friday 13 May 2016.
